evaluation of efficacy of the disinfectants on bacteria isolated from isfahan hospital surfaces in 2015

aims: the internal unit and icu of hospitals are a suitable environment for growing of bacteria such as staphylococcus epidermidis and pseudomonas, acinetobacter. the aim of our study was to evaluate the effect of different disinfectants on bacteria isolated from the surface of hospitals in isfahan. instrument & methods: in this study, 200 samples were randomly selected from different parts of hospitals, before and after disinfection. the samples were cultured in the microbiology laboratory. colony counting were determined. identification was done by using biochemical tests. the studied disinfectants were deconex 50af, descoscid, epimax sc, and silvosept. finally, data were analyzed with using paired t-test. finding: the highest isolates were detected from emergency unit before disinfection included pseudomonas aeruginosa, staphylococcus spp., escherichia coli, proteus spp., klebsiella spp., acinetobacter spp., and enterobacter spp. our study show that the most popular isolates were from s. epidermidis with 29.8 %. according to the results, some disinfectants reduced the pollution before and after disinfection; especially significant difference were for internal units (p = 0.001 and 0.003). conclusion: all disinfectants were effective for bacteria that isolated from surfaces and had shown a significant difference only between internal units before and after disinfection by epimax sc and silvosept. the most effective disinfectant on p. aeruginosa, staphylococcus spp, and e. coli was epimax sc and silvosept, respectively.
